One of the things that I'll never do, but I can admire from other people are journal comics. Usually loose artistically and done as an artistic exercise above all else, they're often a window to the cartonists' soul (Even when they're less than 100% true to life.) Without including the most famous couple, here's some I enjoy.

I don't want to do some huge thesis about these. I will say that My Stupid Life is Mitch Clem's follow-up to San Antonio Rock City, which I previously recommended.
